Mediterranean & Canary Islands

Barcelona is one of the most popular cruise ports in the Mediterranean.  The cruise port is easily accessable from the city centre and the airport and is an ideal starting point for a Mediterranean cruise.

Most of the major cruise lines depart from the port, particularly in the summer months, while some cruise lines such as MSC Cruises and Celebrity Cruises also have ships sailing all year round from Barcelona.

Popular Cruise Lines

Barcelona is the most popular cruise embarkation port in the Mediterranean and the homeport to many of the biggest ships in the world especially during the summer season which begins from May and ends late October/early November.

MSC Cruises are the largest cruise line in terms of ships sailing from Barcelona and offer year round itineraries and their World Class Ship MSC Eurpopa is currently the largest ship sailing all year round in the Western Mediterranean.  She will be joined at the back end of 2026 by MSC World Asia who will make her maiden voyage in December 2026.  MSC cruises have a host of ships that sail out of Barcelona offering 7 night round trip cruises around the Western Mediterranean.  The ships also offer embarkations at most of the ports on the itineraries meaning a huge choice of embarkation ports such as Civitavecchia (Rome), Naples, Marseille, Valletta, Genoa and Valencia plus many more.

Not to be outdone, Royal Caribbean's newest Icon Class ship "Legend of the Seas" will debut in the summer of 2026 offering cruises from Rome during July and will commence itineraries from Barcelona in August 2026.  Legend of the Seas will then become the largest cruise ship to sail in the Mediterranean.  

Celebrity Cruises offer longer sailings of around 9 to 12 nights with a range of itineraries to the Canary Islands, Portugal, Mororcco, France, Italy, Malta, the Greek Isles and Turkey.  They also have at least one ship departing from Barcelona all year round with Celebrity Infinity sailing Canary Island itineraries in the winter before repositioning back to Athens during the summer months.  Celebrity also have their newest ship "Celebrity Xcel" sailing round trip itineraries around the Western Mediterranean and one way sailings to Athens.

Norwegian Cruise lines reposition a large number of their fleet to the Mediterranean during the summer months, with Barcelona one of the main embarkation ports for round trip sailings and one way itineraries to Lisbon or Rome.

MSC Cruises have the most ships in the Mediterranean all year round with ships sailing out of Barcelona including MSC World Europa, with MSC World Asia joing the fleet at the end of 2026 with 7 night Western Mediterranean itineraries departing from Barcelona

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean is the market leader in the cruise industry and sails Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona during the summer months.  Summer 2026 will see their new ship "Legend of the the Seas" make her maiden voyage aroud the Mediterranean and itineraries in Barcelona will commence in August 2026 becoming the largest ship to sail in the Mediterranean

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises has at least one of their cruise ships sailing out of Barcelona all year round.  Itineraries vary from round trip sailings around the Western Mediterranean or to the Greek Isles to one-way voyages to Rome and Athens during the summer months.  Celebrity Infinity is based in Barcelona during the winter offering itineraries to the warmer climate of the Canary Islands

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise lines is another of the cruise market leaders with numerous iteineraries commencing from Barcelona during the summer months.  Norwegian Dawn offers one way itineraries from Barcelona to Lisbon and vice versa during the summer months.

Western Mediterranean visiting Spain, France & Italy

MSC Orchestra is currently sailing 7 night itineraries from Barcelona until April 2026 when she will depart on a 6 night itineray to Valencia to commence a newround trip itinerary around the Western Mediterranean.  

In October 2026, MSC Orchestra will reposition to the Eastern Mediterranean on 7 night cruises from the ports of Bari, Istanbul and Pireues (Athens) through the winter 2026/27 season and staying in the region for Summer 2027 with itineraries commencing from Bari and Piraues (Athens).

Western Mediterranean visiting Spain, France, Italy & Malta

MSC World Europa is currently sailing 7 night Western Mediterrean itineraries through to the the Autumn departing Barcelona every Friday.  Departures are also available from Genoa, Marseille & Messina along with Rome on the itineraries until April '26 and Naples and Valletta during the summer sailings in 2026.  

In November, MSC World Europa will reposition to the Arabian Gulf with a 22 night cruise from Barcelona to Dubai through the Mediterranean and Suez Canal.  She will spend the winter period their with 7 night cruises from Dubai with an overnight stopover along with Abu Dhabi and Doha.

Western Mediterranean visiting Spain, France, Italy & Malta

MSC Splendida is currently sailing 7 night Western Mediterrean itineraries through to the the Autumn departing Barcelona on Saturdays until the 2nd May where she will sail a 8 night itinerary before departing Barcelona on Sundays until early November.  Departures will also take place in Genoa, Cagliari, Valletta, Livorno, Marseille, Naples and Palermo.

In November, MSC World Europa will reposition to South America from Barcelona on an 18 night Transatlantic repositioning cruise to Buenos Aires.  Departures on slightly longer itineraries also commence form Marseille, Livorno, Cagliari and Palermo.  The South America itineraries depart from Buenos Aires, the Capital of Argentina which are 8 to 9 nights in duration.

MSC Splendida will then reposition back to the Eastern Mediterranean at the end of March 27 with a 22 night Transatlantic repositioning cruise to Trieste with short itineraries available to ports in the Western Mediterranean

Barcelona Transatlantic to Miami

Norwegian Cruise Lines newest ship will commence sailings in March '26 with a Transatantic repositioning cruise in March 2026 with a 11 night cruise from Barcelona or a 13 night cruise from Civitavecchia (Rome).

Once she has reached Miami, Norwegian Luna will sail 3, 4 and 7 night itineraries to the Bahamas and Caribbean until March 2027.

From April 2027, Norwegian Luna will sail from Manhatten or Brooklyn in New York on 4, 5 and 7 night itineraries to Bermuda through the October 2027 before returning to Miami to sail 2, 3 and 7 night itineraries to the Bahamas and Caribbean with bookings currently available up to April 2028

Barcelona to Rome

Odyssey of the Seas will reposition to the Mediterranean mid March with a 15 night repositioning cruise from Cape Liberty to Barcelona.  On the 16th April, she will reposition to Rome with a one way itinerary and then sail round trip from the port of Civitavecchia, Rome throughout the summer with 7 night itineraries available until October '26.

On the 25th October, Odyssey of the Seas will depart Rome on a 14 night Transatlantic repositioning cruise back to Cape Liberty (New York) for the winter Caribbean season with Perfect Day at Coco Cay included on the majority of Caribbean itineraries.  In April 2027, Odyssey of the Seas will reposition back to the Mediterranean to once again sail from Civitavecchia, Rome during the summer season through to the end of October 2027.   She will then reposition back to Cape Liberty for the Caribbean winter season.

Mediterranean

MSC Musica is currently in the Canary Islands sailing 7 night itineraries until April 2026 when she will return to the Mediterranean with a reposition cruise.  On the 18th April she will depart Barcelona on a 5 night cruise around the Western Mediterranean to Valencia and will then begin 7 night itineraries from Valencia, Rome, Genoa, Marseille and Cagliari throughout the summer and autumn.

MSC Musica is due to go into drydock in October where she will have the MSC Yacht Club added before the winter season in South America with itineraries departing from Santos, Rio de Janeiro and other Brazilian ports from November through to April 2027.  MSC Musica will then return to the Mediterranean in May 2027 to begin 7 night sailings around the Western Mediterranean.

Barcelona to Ravenna

Norwegian Pearl is currently based out of Miami sailing round trip itineraries to the Caribbean and will repositing to the Mediterranean on a 15 night Transatlantic crossing to Barcelona on the 11th April 2026. She will then reposition from Barcelona to Ravenna to commence one wau 7 night itineraries between Ravenna and Piraeus (Athnes) throughout the summer 2026 season.

On the 1st November 2026, Norwegian Pearl will then reposition back to North America with a one way 13 night Transatlantic repositioning cruise from Ravenna to Philadelpia.  She will be based out of Philadelphia sailing Bermuda and Caribbean cruises with bookings available through to April 2028.  

In September and October 2027, there will be 4 one way NE England and Canada sailings between Philadelphia and Quebec.

MSC Seaview is currently in South America for the winter season and will reposition to the Mediterrean mid April from Santos and Rio de Janeiro. on a Transatlantic Itinerary.  She will begin with a 4 night Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona before commencing 7 night Western Mediterranean cruises on the 30tth April.  Cruises will also commence from Civitavecchia (Rome), Genoa, Marseille and Palermo during the summer 2026 season.
