Airline Alliances

There are 3 major airline alliances, which are One World, Sky Team and Star Alliance.  The airlines in these groups have partnerships with the other carriers within the group which offers passengers the ability to earn rewards through airmails and other programs and allows the ability to extend routes and options for flying to additional locations all over the world.

Most often the airlines within the group code share.  This means that if you book flights with one airline, it could mean that you fly with another within the alliance in order to get you to your final destination. 

One World 

One World was formed in 1999 and currently has 15 members.  The airlines within the group fly to over 900 destinations in the the world covering 170 countries/territories.

Emirates and Etihad

Emirates and Etihad are both flag carriers for the United Arab Emirates and operate out of Dubai (Emirates) and Abu Dhabi (Etihad).  These two airlines are not part of any alliance but do have global partner airlines.

Emirates fly to 133 destinations around the world including countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North and South America and the Pacific countries of Australia and New Zealand.

Emirates also have travel partner airlines that allows travel to an additional 300 destinations throughout the world.

Destination flights.

There are plenty of options for travelling to the destinations featured.  Below is a brief list of options for flights through airline alliances as well as Emirates, Etihad Airways and some low cost airlines.

Athens 

The airline alliances that fly into Athens from world wide destinations are:

These airlines have direct flights from Jordan, Qatar, Spain, UK, USA as well as connecting flights from all over the world through connecting hubs such as London Heathrow, Madrid Barajas Airport & Doha.

Sky Team - Air Europa, Air France, Delta Airlines, ITA Airlines, KLM, Korean Air, Middle Eastern Airlines, Saudia, Tarom

These airlines have direct flights from France, Italy, Lebanon, Netherlands, Romania, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Spain, as well as connecting flights from all over the world through their connecting hubs  such as Amsterdam, Paris CDG, Singapore & Abu Dhabi.

Star Alliance - Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Egypt Air, Ethiopia Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines.

These airlines have direct flights from most capital cities in Europe, as well as flights from Canada (seasonal), China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Turkey and the US (seasonal).  There are also connecting flights from all over the world through their connecting hubs such as Frankfurt and Istanbul.

Emirates fly from direct from Dubai-International and Newark, and Etihad fly direct from Abu Dhabi.

There are also numerous low cost European Airlines that fly into Athens such as Condor, Easy Jet, Condor, Jet 2, Norwegian Air, Pegasus, Ryanair, Transvia, Volotea, Vueling and Wizzair.

Emirates - Skywards Miles

The rewards program for Emirates is the Skywards Miles Program which is a loyalty program allowing members to earn and spend Skywards miles with various Emirates partners.

The airlines within the partnership are Air Canada, Air Mauritius, Bangkok Airways, Copa Airlines, EasyJet, Fly Dubai, GOL Linhas, Aereas Inteligentes, Japan Airlines, Jetstar, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, South African Airlines, TAP Portugal and United Airlines.
