From Cancun Airport - Playa del Carmen is around 60km from Cancun airport and a private transfer will take around an hour depending on traffic.  North Playa del Carmen will be slightly quicker, and Playacar which is to the south of Playa del Carmen may take a few minutes longer.  Travel times in shared transfers will depend on hotel stops en-route to your hotel.

Best time to visit

Spring Break is a popular time for American students to visit Playa del Carmen and the surrounding areas from the end of February to early April.  Hotels policies vary from one to another with minimum age as well not accepting groups.  

November to March - This is the high season and is known for the perfect weather with sunny skies and low humidity.

March to April - This period sees a lot of activity due to Spring Break

April to May - The time of year when you can get some great deals with less crowds and pleasant weather.

May to October - Wet season with the Atlantic Hurricane season running from June to October,  Humidity is higher and there is more chance of heavy storms, although hurricanes do not frequently hit the Yucatan Peninsular.  Resorts are also well prepared to deal with any storms that do hit the area.
